A barista is making a batch of whiskey for her customers on a bright bar.
If you need a refresher on the basics of whiskey and how it works, here’s a primer from our friends at The Whiskey Bible: The process of distilling whiskey involves a mixture of distillers and a method of heat treatment, which involves turning the water into a hot liquid.
The distillation process is a simple one.
Step 1: Fill a metal or plastic barrel with a liquid and heat it to about 180 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius).
Step 2: Add distilled water to the liquid, add the distiller, and then heat it at the temperature of the liquid for two minutes.
Step 3: Then add the rest of the distillate to the barrel and heat to boiling.
This process takes about two minutes per gallon.
As you can see, the distillation is not difficult.
There are a few other steps to follow to ensure a good product.
To make whiskey, you will need to start with the distilling step first, then heat the distillery to a higher temperature, then turn the barrel on its side to create a heat dome, which creates a vapor path that cools the liquid and prevents it from foaming.

(Joe Raen/Getty) To do that, a distiller needs to place a metal bowl or glass bowl into a metal container, like a mug or glass of hot water, and place it over a hot burner to heat up.
When the heat dome reaches about 180ºF (100ºC), the distilled water vapor condenses and condenses on the bowl.
Once the condensates are in place, the distilled water can be added to the vessel and allowed to cool to the point of being almost completely cool.
After about two to three minutes, the liquid is ready to pour into a glass.
While you can put a small amount of water in the glass, you won’t need much because the amount of distilled water in your glass is already almost complete.
It’s not a good idea to add more water until you’re ready to serve the drink.
Now that you know how to make a bourbon, how about a whiskey cocktail?
